The term “hosting” doesn't describe a particular service, but a set of services which provide a variety of functions to a domain name. Having a site and e-mails, as an illustration, are two independent services even though in the general case they come together, so many people consider them as one single service. The truth is, each domain name has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each particular service - the former is a numeric IP address, that specifies where the site for the domain name is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that manages the e-mails for the domain. As an example, an A record would be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Whenever you open a site or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain name has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. If you have custom records on their end, the browser request or the email will then be directed to the correct server. The idea behind using separate records is that the two services work with different web protocols and you could have your website hosted by one provider and the e-mails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting through us, you're going to be able to see, create and change any A or MX record for your domain names. Assuming that a given domain has our Name Servers, you'll be able to change particular records via our Hepsia hosting CP and have your site or e-mails directed to another company if you want to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool will even enable you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address at all. If you want to use the email services of another service provider and they want you to create more than 2 MX records, you can easily do it with just a couple of mouse clicks through the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. Also you can set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan through our company, you'll be able to see and update the A and MX records for any one of the domain addresses or subdomains you host within the account. The Hepsia Control Panel, which you'll get to take care of the account, comes with an advanced, albeit easy-to-use tool where all hosts will be listed in alphabetical order and you will be able to edit their records with no more than several clicks. If you have to set up a new record, it will be equally simple - select the domain/subdomain, type in the IP address or mail server record and you will be ready. You will also be able to set different priority for the MX records you create in case that you choose to use a third-party e-mail provider and they ask you to set up additional records besides the two default ones. In case you experience any troubles, we've got a detailed Help section with videos in which you can see first-hand how to create or edit any record.
